Afforestation is practiced in rural areas around many large cities as a means of improving the quality of the drinking water supply aquifer by filtering out pollutants. Afforestation may also reduce peak flows and help to maintain base flows. Such afforestation should reduce sediment loadings and may have other benefits including improved biodiversity and recreational value. - Based on Stella definitions, adapted by NWRM project experts and validated by the European Commission Links Relation type Related Concept Agricultural practice Relation type Related Concept Afforestation Relation type Related Concept Urban forests parks Relation type Related Concept Meadows and pastures Relation type Related Concept Continuous Cover forestry Relation type Related Concept Targeted planting for "catching" precipitation Themes forestry Type of action Afforestation Biophysical benefits Water quality improvement Soil conservation Full Context Pathway(aka Context) Default view Area(aka Level or Site) ALL
